ANOTHER wildfire has broken out in Wester Ross on a busy day for firefighters in the Highlands and Islands.

Two fire engines from Dingwall and one from Applecross were scrambled to the scene of a wildfire in the Loch Carron area at 3.56pm this afternoon. No further details as to its precise location were available at the time of writing.

It follows another wildfire last night between Aultbea and Laide, near to Laide Wood. Appliances from Ullapool, Torridon and Aultbea were still dealing with that fire on Friday morning but have since been stood down after it was extinguished.

Elsewhere, another blaze cut off road access to the north of Skye on Friday afternoon after a wildfire broke out close to the A87 between Luib and Moll. However, the route reopened at around 4pm and police thanked the public for their patience while emergency services tackled the fire.

As well as these three fires, there have also been a spate of similar blazes on a number of Outer Hebridean islands since Thursday - amid an “extreme” wildfire alert for the islands and western coasts of the Scottish mainland.
