THE doors of Dingwall's new council service point will open for the first time later this month.

The facility, which will deliver Highland Council's service point and registrar functions, will be located within the Dingwall council building at 84 High Street from Tuesday, May 14. The move will free up the existing Ross House High Street site for affordable homes.

The new site will act as a "community hub", providing one-door access to a wide range of council services locally. The local authority also believes it will be more efficient than the facilities it replaces.

“Our local service point will be held up as an excellent example of what can be achieved. Essentially it is a new community hub," said Councillor Alister MacKinnon, the chairman of the corporate resources committee and a Dingwall and Seaforth Ward representative.

"One of the enhanced new services I am particularly pleased to see is the digital suite where customers will have easy access, with helpful staff on hand to provide assistance. Customers will also notice the improved meeting room facilities which allow increased confidentiality.”

Following the flit, the council and its partners will be able to convert the Ross House site to 12 new affordable town centre homes for rent with two new retail units incorporated as part of the redevelopment.

Councillor MacKinnon added: “The move from the existing service point at Ross House... paves the way for the regeneration of a key High Street site to provide much needed affordable homes and new retail opportunities.”

To facilitate the move, the Ross House Service Point will close as normal at 4.30pm on Thursday, May 9 and will reopen at its new location at 9.30am on Tuesday, May 14.

Service point staff are making customers aware of the changes but anyone requiring assistance with registration when the office is closed should contact Inverness Registration Office on 01349 781131 and the Highland Council Service Centre on 01349 886606 for all other enquiries.
