FAVOURITE recipes have been brought to the fire as the latest fundraising idea for the Highland Hospice.

The charity’s Aird fundraising group have are behind the cookery book, the publication of which coincided with the opening of a new charity shop in Beauly to raise money for the hospice’s work across the region.

The boutique-style shop based in the former post office has been sympathetically restored to retain the building’s character and original features.

Jenny MacIver, chairperson of the Aird fundraising group, said members had all been asked to submit their four favourite recipes, the result being a 38-recipe book with a cover designed by Black Isle artist Nicola MacDonell.

"We are all keen cooks and bakers," Mrs MacIver said. "We often do things for fundraising tea parties or garden open days and many of the recipes in the book are used at those events. It means we can take copies of the book along with our baking too."

A total of 500 copies are now being sold for £5 each at a variety of outlets in Beauly.

These include at the hospice shop itself as well as Bridgend Filling Station, Robertson’s The Larder plus Strathpeffer Crafts. It is also being stocked in the Highland Hospice coffee shop.

It will also be on sale at two upcoming garden open days across the area – at Highland Liliums, Kiltarlity on Sunday, July 22 and House of Aigas and Field Centre on Sunday, July 29.
