Moore claims he’s hit goal standard at last

DANIEL Moore is determined to deny his former club Peterhead a place in the footballing record books.

The Buchan club was credited with three own goals in Tuesday night’s 6-1 defeat at Borough Briggs but Moore is claiming one of the goals for himself.

Surprisingly, given his sparkling displays on City’s left side in his debut season for the club, Moore had failed to score in any of his 26 appearances.

But he is adamant he broke his duck in game number 27, as he insists Elgin’s fourth goal against Peterhead was his and not an own goal by visiting defender Callum Macdonald.

“That’s my goal – I’m off the mark for the season,” Moore said shortly after the match. “It’s definitely my goal.

“It was going on target before Callum touched it.

“I told the ref ‘any chance of giving it to me’ and I’m hopeful he has.”

Moore had already forced Peterhead’s second own goal, bizarrely netted by their prolific front man Rory McAllister with a miscued near-post header from the Elgin man’s inswinging right wing corner.

Moore took the congratulations of his team-mates for that one but admitted, “I can’t claim that one, but the next one’s mine.”

The former Ross County and Peterhead midfielder was the architect of so many of City’s most promising raids as they simply tore a sorry-looking Blue Toon to shreds from start to finish.
