CHANGES to the phasing of a major housing development in a Ross-shire village are being slated for approval next week.

Developer Ian Elliot Ltd wants to vary a condition of a previous planning approval to allow 60 houses to be developed in the first phase of a scheme west of Wyndhill Industrial Estate in Muir of Ord.

The North Planning Applications Committee, which meets next week, is being asked to allow the 60 houses to be developed in a single phase as opposed to a maximum of 20 units per annum as previously approved.

A report to the Highland Council committee concludes that the proposal does not exceed the capacity allowed for in the adopted development plan.

It means the development could potentially be delivered over two years rather than three.

A legal agreement is already in place to secure a 25 per cent minimum of affordable housing and contributions towards education and community use.

The report to councillors states: "The proposed erection of 60 houses does not exceed the capacity identified in the adopted development plan and reinforced by the existing planning permission in principle. The requested variation will only result in a minor change to the timescale of delivery of the houses, potentially over two years rather than three years."
