A MUIR of Ord golfing event targeting businesses and supporters of Highland Hospice has netted £3,490.

John Fraser and Son organised the event at Muir of Ord Golf Club in support of the hospice’s Project Build Appeal to raise the funds required to rebuild the facility’s inpatient unit on Ness Walk in Inverness.

The event was a great success with 18 teams taking enjoying the day in a common cause.

Lisa Long, Highland Hospice fundraiser, said: “We’re so grateful to the team at John Fraser and Son for holding this event for our Project Build Appeal – the whole team put so much effort in to raising the money and making it such an enjoyable day at Muir of Ord Golf Club.

“If Vikki and her team have inspired any other companies to hold an event for our appeal then please get in touch – we would love to hear from you and any money you manage to raise will be make a real difference to the future of hospice care in the Highlands.”

The existing unit is now over 25-years-old and half the size suggested by healthcare guidelines. Currently there are only four single and two shared rooms in the unit. There is also a lack of space for families and crucial bereavement support services.

The plan is to double the size of the unit while staying on the same site and to provide nine single en-suite bedrooms plus one much larger shared room. There will also be more space for family accommodation and three dedicated counselling rooms, plus the scope needed to develop an innovative “virtual hospice”.
