Muir man jailed over death jibe
A MUIR of Ord man who alarmed two women at a homeless centre by telling them he had killed someone they knew has been jailed for four months.
Sentence had been deferred on Peter Stewart but Inverness Sheriff Court heard today (Thursday) that he had committed another disturbance at Raigmore Hospital in November.
Stewart (56) of Corrie Gardens, Muir of Ord admitted that on July 19 at the Homeless Day Centre at Waterloo Place, Inverness, he behaved in a manner likely to cause alarm by telling two women that a man they knew was dead and he had killed him.
He also admitted on November 23, at the Accident and Emergency Unit at Raigmore Hospital conducting himself in a disorderly manner, brandishing a walking stick and committing a breach of the peace. He further admitted that later that same day on a journey to Burnett Road Police Station in a police car he behaved in an abusive manner by threatening to knock out two police officers and attempting to strike the driver of the vehicle.
Defence agent William Young asked for sentence to be deferred to give Stewart the opportunity to address a problem he had with alcohol.
Sheriff William Taylor told him: "You have let the court down by committing another offence. The public deserves to be protected from you when you are drunk because you alarm people."
The custodial sentence was backdated to November 23.
