MSP urges folk to support Ross-shire Women's Aid plea
A HIGHLAND MSP who is a long-term supporter of Ross-Shire Women’s Aid is urging the public to respond to its plea for household items to help furnish a new refuge.
Earlier this month, Ross-Shire Women’s Aid was awarded a property in Skye from the Skye and Lochalsh Housing Association for use by women who are fleeing domestic violence.
Ross-shire Women’s Aid is now seeking household items to be donated to help set up the new property.
The items range from bath mats and tea towels through to kitchen appliances such as kettles and toasters.
Members of the public simply need to visit amazon.com and search for the "Rosswa" wish list to donate.
This new refuge is in addition to a purpose-built property for seven women and their families, together with a flat suitable for a woman or child with a disability, which the group runs in Ross-shire.
Rhoda Grant MSP said: "I was delighted to learn that Ross-Shire Women’s Aid had been awarded a property in Skye by the local housing association. These refuges provide vital support and security to woman and their young children who have experienced domestic violence and abuse.
"I think the wish list idea is a really good, innovative way for the public to donate items to Ross-Shire Women’s Aid. It is ideal as you can do it from any location at any time with the ability to donate small items like tea towels which only cost a few pounds right up to kettles around the £20 mark.
"As a long term supporter of Women’s Aid locally I will be encouraging people to make a donation through the wish list on amazon.co.uk as I plan to do myself."
