THE funeral took place this week of the west coast fish farm worker who died after falling into the sea at his work on Loch Alsh last month.

Around 250 friends and family packed into Dornie Hall on Tuesday to pay their respects to Clive Hendry (58), and about the same number of mourners were outside. He was later laid to rest at Clachan Duich Cemetery.

Mr Hendry, of Aitemore Road, Dornie, was assistant manager at the Ardintoul Fish Farm run by aquaculture giants Mowi, formerly Marine Harvest.

He is survived by partner Catriona, mother Anne, brothers Keith and Niall and sister Jane who gave a eulogy telling that her Middlesbrough-born brother was a great nature lover whose favourite pastime was pike fishing.

A collection was taken for Kyle RNLI lifeboat, and a world horse charity to mark the couple's involvement with horses.

Mowi issued a tribute to Mr Hendry which said: "All of us, and especially his closest colleagues at Mowi Scotland, are devastated by the loss of Clive Hendry who died as a result of an accident at his workplace last month.

"Clive had been our colleague for 12 years and was a truly valued member of the team, and friend.

"We continue to assist all relevant authorities, including police, the Health and Safety Executive and the Maritime and Coastguard Agency, that are investigating the incident.

"Our thoughts and sincere condolences are with Clive’s family and friends."

Mr Hendry is believed to have fallen from a fish farm vessel near Ardintoul after 3pm on Tuesday, February 18. Police, Kyle of Lochalsh RNLI lifeboat, Coastguard teams and the Scottish Ambulance Service responded to the incident.

Police Scotland said Mr Hendry was recovered from the water and taken to hospital in Broadford, Skye, where he was pronounced dead.
