Local residents in Easter Ross are pleading to the council to give them funds for a new play park.

The small village of Milton, which is located within one of the 20 per cent most deprived areas in Scotland, has no suitable play parks despite having a primary school with more than 60 pupils enrolled on its register.

Locals have come together and contacted councillors to appoint new funding for play parks to the village.

Some £219,000 has been made available for renewing parks across the Highlands, a strategy agreed by The Highland Council’s Communities and Place Committee.

A decision will be made in February on where the money will be allocated, and locals in Milton are hopeful they will be included among the successful projects.

There is no formal application process to be part of the fund. Councillors visited areas and assessed to decide where the money should go.

The parent council at Milton Primary School were heavily involved in the campaign, sending emails and organising photos to help bolster their efforts.

Joanna Mcleod, a member of the parent council, emphasised the need for a play park.

She said: “The existing park is dilapidated and some items of play equipment have been removed due to being rusty and unsafe.”

There were three parks in the village originally.

However, two have now been removed completely and the third remains “almost unusuable” due to its poor condition.

Currently, parents rely on poor transport links to go to neighbouring towns to visit other play parks in the area.
