Inland Ross-shire braced for more snow after Met Office issues fresh yellow alert ahead of the arrival of Storm Jorge; the warning covers most of Ross-shire, parts of Inverness-shire, the Cairngorms and extends as far south as Loch Lomond and the Central Belt
MET Office forecasters have issued a 45-hour long warning for snow across most of Ross-shire ahead of the arrival of Storm Jorge.
Forecasters have issued a yellow alert, which will come into force at 3pm on Saturday and is expected to remain in place for almost 48 hours.
The area covered by the warning includes parts of Inverness-shire, most of inland Ross-shire, the Cairngorms, Grampians, Perthshire, Argyll and as far south as the southern shores of Loch Lomond. It also extends north into the southernmost parts of Sutherland.
“Persistent snow is likely over higher parts of Scotland leading to travel disruption,” said a Met Office spokesman.
“Transport may be affected, with longer journey times by road, bus and train services should higher routes become impassable.
“There is a small chance that vehicles and passengers could become stranded on the higher trunk routes north of the Central Belt.”
The alert will be in place until midday on Monday.
It will follow a separate yellow warning for heavy snow this evening (Friday) between the Central Belt and the Cairngorms, as well as Fort William and parts of Lochaber. It covers a large stretch of the key A9 Inverness-Perth road, and motorists should take extra care.
This weekend’s Highland alert also comes after a week of frequent heavy snow showers in many parts of the area.
