A MAN who "exploded with rage" at his Ross-shire girlfriend when she told him their relationship was over has been jailed for 45 days.

A court heard how Kieran Davies (24) became aggressive and agitated, making threats and warning his 20-year-old victim he would have her beaten up and "make her life a living a hell".

The ugly turn of events was recounted at Inverness Sheriff Court this week as Davies, of Lawfield Drive, Ayton was sentenced after previously admitting threatening behaviour on March 19, 2019.

Sentence on him had been deferred at a previous court hearing for his good behaviour. But a warrant had to be issued because he failed to turn up for sentencing last year. It was executed recently in the Borders.

Sheriff Gary Aitken was told that Davies had a number of cases calling at Jedburgh on July 9, some involving the same partner and that he was likely to receive a lengthy custodial sentence for subsequent offences.

The sheriff said he did not want to interfere with the sentencing powers of the court later this month and fined Davies £1500 pounds. His lawyer, Matt Patrick asked for no time to pay and the alternative was imposed.

The court had been told that the couple were on a relationship for only about a week.

Fiscal depute Michelle Molley said that Davies and his girlfriend had returned home early that morning after he had been in hospital.

"There was niggling between them throughout the day and it culminated in a full blown argument that evening. She told him that she couldn't cope with the relationship any longer and it was at an end.

"He was unhappy about this, became agitated and aggressive and that escalated over a period of three hours. He shouted and swore and threatened to kick her in and get her beaten up. He also said he would make her life a living hell.

"Fearing for her safety, she contacted the police." Ms Molley went on.

Mr Patrick said his client "struggled to process his emotions and would explode with rage".
