A 23-year-old scaffolder who was placed on the sex offenders’ register last year for a sex assault on a young girl failed to notify police he had a passport.

Lewis Morrison, of Neil Gunn Place, Dingwall, appeared at Inverness Sheriff Court and admitted failing to comply with notification requirements.

The court heard police had approached him several times to ask him if he had a valid passport with him claiming it was lost. He also told them he had reported it.

But officers checked with the Passport Office and discovered no report had been received.

He was fined £380.
