Sutherland house fire: One man dead following blaze in Drumbeg; cause of death is currently ‘unexplained’; next of kin made aware of death say Police Scotland officers in the Highlands
A man has died following a housefire in Sutherland yesterday afternoon, police have confirmed.
Emergency crews were scrambled to Drumbeg, north of Lochinver, shortly after 4pm to reports of a fire at a house in Poldarroch Road.
Four fire engines from Ullapool, Achiltibuie and Kinlochbervie attended the scene, as well as two ambulances and police.
In an update shortly before 12.40pm on Thursday, police confirmed that a man’s body had been found within the building and that next of kin are aware.
“Around 4.20pm on Wednesday, [we] were called to a report of a fire at a property in Poldarroch Road, Drumbeg,” said a police spokesperson. “Emergency services attended and the fire was put out by the Scottish Fire and Rescue Service.
“The body of a man was found within and next of kin are aware.
“The death is being treated as unexplained and enquiries are ongoing to establish the full circumstances.”
