Man dead after Kessock Bridge incident
A MAN has died following an incident on the Kessock Bridge.
Emergency services were alerted to the A9 link route at around 8.20pm on Friday evening following reports that a man had entered the water.
Police later appealed for witnesses to come forward in regard to the incident but did not at that time state what had happened.
This afternoon, police confirmed that a man had entered the water in the vicinity of the bridge on Friday evening.
Emergency services attended and the RNLI lifeboat alerted.
The man was recovered from the water by lifeboat crew but despite attempts by the ambulance service to resuscitate him, he was pronounced dead at the scene.
According to its website, the RNLI Kessock lifeboat was launched at 8.28pm on Friday night. No further details are listed at present.
Police said: "There are no further details at this time."
The Kessock Bridge has been undergoing a four-month period of renovation, started in February and due to finish later this month.
A second phase is due at the same time next year.
