A man was flown to Raigmore Hospital in Inverness yesterday after his kayak overturned in a Wester Ross loch.

The alarm was raised just after noon that the kayaker had fallen into the water at Loch Maree.

Coastguard rescue teams from Gairloch and Loch Ewe attended the scene along with the search and rescue helicopter from Inverness, the Scottish Fire and Rescue Service, Scottish Ambulance Service and Police Scotland.

The man was rescued from the water by the Inverness Search and Rescue helicopter and taken by air to hospital for treatment.

Three other members of the group were checked over by ambulance staff at the scene.

A Police Scotland spokesman said: "We were made aware of a man having got into difficulty while kayaking on Loch Maree around 12.25pm on Sunday December 13.

"The man subsequently taken to Raigmore Hospital for treatment."
