Major disruption to internet and telephone services in the Highlands after flooding

Flash flooding has caused major disruption to internet and telephone services in the Highlands.

Businesses in Inverness are among those reporting problems this morning after a major exchange in Edinburgh was flooded.

Telcoms issues have also been widely reported on the Black Isle.

Highland News & Media, whose titles include the Ross-shire Journal and North Star, is also experiencing disruption to its internet access at its base at Moray House in Bank Street and at its offices in Golspie and Wick.

Highland Council tweeted: "Major internet and network issues affecting council sites and home working access across Scotland - circumstances outwith our control due to flooding of exchange in Edinburgh #Thunderstorms."

The Kingsmills Hotel also post a message on social media, saying it was experiencing issues with its phone line due to flooding at the BT Exchange in Edinburgh.

"Whilst we wait for this to be fixed, should you need to get in touch with us please email info@kingsmillshotel.com and our team will get back to you as soon as we can," it said.

The weather has also caused chaos on the ScotRail network this morning.

Flooding caused by torrential downpours has been reported on some lines in the central belt area, causing knock-on effects for those travelling on the Highland Mainline.
