Lochinver lifeboat was launched last night as part of an extensive search for a missing person in the Highlands.

At about 9.30pm, the lifeboat, the coastguard helicopter from Stornoway, Loch Ewe, Gairloch and Achiltibuie coastguard rescue teams were sent, at the request of Police Scotland, to assist in a search in Aultbea.

The person was found as teams made their way to the scene.

A Police Scotland spokesperson said:

"Around 9.15 pm on Thursday, December 29, police and rescue services were called after a woman was reported missing in Aultbea, near Gairloch.

"The lady was traced safe and well by officers a short time later.

"Advice and assistance given."
