Loch Ness Marathon has proven increasingly popular with runners.

ORGANISERS of the Loch Ness Marathon are to hold a “virtual café” event next month.

This year’s Baxter’s Loch Ness Marathon and Festival of Running had to be cancelled as a result of coronavirus, the first time in its 18-year history that it had to be called off.

Now an online get together is to be held instead on Saturday.

A spokesperson said: “Although we can’t run together this year we couldn’t let the Baxter’s Loch Ness Marathon and Festival of Running weekend pass without celebrating all that we love about the event!

“We have an exciting line-up of guests joining us including sports presenter Vassos Alexander, Runners World head coach Tom Craggs and lots of brilliant memories and Loch Ness moments to share with you.

“Save the date now!”

Fans of the marathon can tune in to the event on the Loch Ness Marathon Facebook page or the event’s Instagram page from 5-5.30pm.

Last year a record-breaking 9500 runners took part in the festival, with 60 per cent of runners coming from outside Scotland and 17 per cent from outside the UK.
