Black Isle Showground scene set for labour of love model show, food and craft fair in aid of Marie Curie run by local farming couple
A BLACK Isle couple’s labour of love fundraising drive is set to soar this weekend at a hugely popular event.
Andrew and Claire Cameron are hosting the model show, food and craft fair at the Black Isle Showground on Saturday for Marie Curie.
Claire, a former Marie Curie nurse, said: “I know first hand the difference that can be made to what can be a traumatic time for families. We both live on our family farm at Tore. We started five years ago after wanting to raise awareness of Marie Curie in the Highlands.
“We have both had family members benefit from Marie Curie nurses and feel passionately about the provision of palliative care at home especially with being part of a rural community where a hospital admission can so deeply impact on social connections and support for patients and families.”

The Saturday event, running from 10am to 4pm promises a fun filled family day with scale model displays of cars, tractors, cranes and aeroplanes and a selection of local food and handmade craft stalls. There will be vintage cars, lorries and tractors on display plus entertainment and kids’ activities. A raffle and live auction at 2.30pm promises great prizes.
The couple have been hosting the event since 2015 and raised over £30,000 so far. Entry is free, donations welcome on the day to Marie Curie.
Claire added: “Andrew has been a keen model collector for a few years and egged on by our two young enthusiastic boys they have all made scale farm displays. Our aim had always been to bring the model community out of their sheds and give families a free day out to enjoy them. We knew Black Isle show ground would be a fantastic venue to marry models displays with food and craft fair to give an event we would love to take our own boys to.”
Collectors are coming from across the north with some specialist makers from England also making the trip. Marie Curie offers care and support through terminal illness. To get a Marie Curie nurse please speak to your district nurse or GP in the first instance.
