Labour candidate says ‘Highlands and Islands deserve a strong voice’
Dualling of the A9 and rebuilding public services are among the priorities for Labour candidate John Erskine in the Scottish Parliament election campaign.
Mr Erskine has been shortlisted in the selection to stand as the party’s candidate for either the Inverness and Nairn constituency or the Caithness, Sutherland and Ross seat.
The next Holyrood election is expected to be held in May 2026.
“I’m pleased to have been shortlisted and to have the opportunity to make the case to members that I’m the right person to take our campaign forward across the Highlands,” Mr Erskine said.
“The Highlands and Islands deserve a strong voice with the experience, energy and commitment to deliver real change.
“From dualling the A9 and improving digital connectivity to standing up for workers and rebuilding our public services, I’ll be focused on the issues that matter most to people here.
“Over the coming weeks, I’m looking forward to speaking with members across the region about my vision for the Highlands and Islands and why I believe Scottish Labour can win here again.”
The selection will be decided by members in a ballot beginning the week of April 28.
Born and raised in the Highlands, Mr Erskine has worked for MSPs and MPs, served in leadership roles within the Scottish Labour Party and held senior positions with the Scottish Chambers of Commerce and the Law Society of Scotland. He is also a former Scottish Parliament official.
He describes himself as “a proud trade unionist” and Co-operative Party member, and has been nominated by Unison in the selection process.
