Kyle RNLI set to host annual Maritime Day

ROSS-SHIRE volunteers who save lives at sea are setting the scene for their biggest fundraising event of the year.

Kyle of Lochalsh RNLI will host its annual Maritime Day on Saturday, September 7 starting at noon.

As with all RNLI lifeboat stations, the Kyle team relies on public donations to stay afloat and offer the life-saving response it does.

It’s hoping for a good turnout on a day that also helps bring the community together.

This year Kyle, Mallaig and Portree lifeboats are all due to make an appearance along with Kyle Fire Brigade, the Coastguard tug and local Coastguard teams.

Police, ambulance, whale rescue teams, local rowing clubs (including a skiff race) and more.

Weather permitting, we will have the local Kayaking club and Lochalsh Rowing club enabling people to get out on the water whilst onshore, there will be the tractor pull competition, rope throwing and lots more!

The Lochalsh Leisure Centre Kyleakin to Kyle swim will take place at 2.30pm, and the day will be rounded off with the annual Kyle Fire Brigade Raft Race at 4.30pm.
