Jobs in store as Ross-shire engineering firm reveals expansion

A Muir of Ord-based firm has snapped up a majority shareholding in a Leeds-based firm, bringing its workforce to 760.

Engineering and manufacturing contractorRoss-shire Engineering (RSE) has hooked up with process control systems and low voltage switchboards specialists, Saftronics.

RSE says the move consolidates its position as one of Scotland’s most innovative multi-market engineering companies with the addition of 110 skilled engineers and technicians to its existing 650-strong workforce.

It expects the deal o lead to new opportunities and more jobs.

It also marks another step south. Saftronics in Leeds boasts a purpose-built 2,400m² design, manufacturing and testing facility.

Under the deal RSE take up a majority equity share in the business whilst retaining the key skills of the Saftronics management team. RSE managing director, Allan Dallas, said: "We are delighted to welcome Saftronics into the RSE group of businesses. We have worked extensively with the company and staff over a number of years and they are a superb fit for RSE. Their focus on quality and innovation are a natural fit to what RSE are about as a company.

“We expect the deal to not only consolidate our position as leaders in our field but also lead to the creation of new jobs in the North and East of Scotland, including at our base in Muir of Ord.

“On the back of the recent oil and gas downturn we continue to attract skills from the sector locally and then retain them within our multi-market approach, evidenced by our latest strategic acquisition. This offers more predictable and longer-term employment prospects as well as job and industry variety.”

Ross Shire Engineering is a subsidiary of Envoy & Partners specialising in mechanical, electrical, instrumentation, controls and automation services to the oil and gas, power and utility markets.

The company now employs 760 staff in the UK and boasts extensive manufacturing facilities across Scotland and England.
