Probe follows tragic death of Tain man (33) following early-morning motorcycle crash

A PROBE has been launched into the actions of the police leading up to an early-morning motorbike crash which claimed the life of a Tain man.

James Lynagh (33) was killed when the Suzuki GSF600 he bought a few days earlier crashed on Culduthel Road in Inverness in the early hours of Saturday morning.

The Police Investigations and Review Commissioner is conducting an investigation "into the circumstances leading up to the collision".

Mr Lynagh's family has paid loving tributes to their "boy with a huge heart".

His family said: "James was a loving son to Rosie, brother to Kerry and doting dad to Riley (8) and will be greatly missed. He was very much a Tain boy with a huge heart and we are going to miss him greatly."

A spokesperson for the PIRC’s investigation team said: "We are carrying out an investigation into the actions of police officers in the lead up to a road traffic collision in Inverness involving a motorcycle in the early hours of Saturday."

The incident was referred to the PIRC by the Crown Office and Procurator Fiscal Service (COPFS). A report will be submitted in due course.

Road policing sergeant Chris Murray said: "We are continuing investigate the circumstances of the collision and are appealing for witnesses, specifically the owner of a light-coloured Mercedes private hire or taxi vehicle, which was in the Culduthel Road area around 3.15am."

The tragic dad's boss Dexy Barker of building firm Dexcapes, said he had worked alongside James the day before he died.

He added: "It was just a normal day. We were building a bridge across a patio. James was joking around as always...he was just one of those people, no matter what he was doing he was comical doing it.

"I was devastated to hear about what happened. The banter in our team has gone.We had good plans for the future. That's all gone now."
