A man swerved onto the opposite lane of a Black Isle road and crashed his car after reaching excessive speeds.

Alan Schiller (21) was driving on the A832 between Avoch and Fortrose when he crashed his Hyundai into a wall on March 21.

Fiscal depute Anna Boyle told Sheriff Gary Aitken at Inverness Sheriff Court that Schiller was spotted by witnesses at around 9pm travelling at speeds of more than 60mph.

She said: “The accused’s car moved over the central lane of the carriageway and the offside of the car came in the way of the witness.

“Another witness observed his car then move away from the carriageway to a near-side wall while flipping.

“It stopped in the opposite direction it was travelling.

“Ambulance services and police were contacted.”

Schiller, of Cradlehall Court, Inverness, pleaded guilty to driving at excessive speeds.

Sheriff Aitken fined him a total of £640, endorsed his driving license and disqualified him from driving for six months.

Schiller’s defence solicitor said: “He sincerely apologises for what happened and it was fright for him.

“He understands how important it is to be more cautious.”
