Invergordon stages 'shave fest' for good causes
OVER 30 brave souls will go under the clippers next weekend when a mass head shave-in is held in Invergordon.
The good sports, who range in age from 10-years-old to their 60s, are raising money for three good causes '– and they are hoping yet more people will join them.
The event has been organised by Tina McCaffery, of the town’s Therapy Rooms beauty salon and spa, to benefit STV’s Supporting Scotland’s Children Appeal, Moray Firth Radio’s Cash For Kids, and the Iris Cancer Partnership, which provides oncology massage therapy for patients across Scotland.
The event, to be held at the beauty salon at Morrich House in Davidson Drive on Saturday July 26, will also be a day of celebration for all the family with craft stalls, a car boot sale, a bouncy castle for youngsters and music from three local pipers.
Tina McCaffery said: "We have 30 people signed up so far and we’re hopeful of even more.
"To begin with it was all women and you know how important hair can be for a woman, so we were thinking that guys just didn’t have the bottle for it.
"But now we’ve got both men and women taking part which is absolutely great."
Tina, who will also be having her head shaved, is now putting out a call for hairdressers and barbers to come forward to help get all those locks shorn and also for clippers.
"They’re all great causes we’re raising money for," said Tina. "We hope as many as possible will support us
"Both the STV and MFR children’s appeals do really good work and the Iris Cancer Partnership are a Scottish charity which provide free, specialised massage therapies for people diagnosed with cancer."
Tina, who does massage for cancer patients, explained that it can reduce stress, anxiety, depression, pain and fatigue of people with cancer as well as enhancing quality of life in the most difficult of circumstances.
She hopes the shave-in will raise between £5-10,000 for the charities depending on how many folk finally join in.
