AN RNLI crew was launched this morning to assist the Coastguard in searching for a vessel which had activated an emergency beacon.

The Coastguard operations room in Aberdeen requested the launch of Invergordon’s all-weather lifeboat at 7.22amwhen they received an alert from a vessel showing to be in the Inner Moray Firth.

The volunteer crew of six left with clear visibility and calm sea, ideal for making best speed up the Cromarty Firth into the Moray Firth to start a search.

Tasked with a search area down to Chanonry Point for any vessels in the area, the crew deployed lookouts and used the lifeboat’s navigational aids to help locate any vessels close by.

With further information being received and communication with the owner of the vessel, it was found by Coastguard teams berthed securely in a marina and the emergency beacon was on board.

The Coastguard stood the volunteer crew down at around 8am.
