Invergordon ‘gymnastics-daft’ girl (8) trying to save gymnastics club where she ‘instantly felt at home’
AN Invergordon gymnastics-daft girl (8) is trying to help save the local gymnastics club, where she “instantly was made to feel at home”.
Fyrish Gymnastics Club in Alness caters for around 800 young aspiring gymnasts from across the Highlands — however the club is now desperately trying to secure the future of its purpose-built gym.
Fyrish had been hoping to purchase the former call centre building they currently lease from BT and were looking to purchase the building for around £150,000.
But last month Fyrish “received the unexpected news” that BT are now putting it on the open market with offers over £400,000.
The Alness club are now desperately trying to secure £70,000 so they can qualify for a community ownership fund with a view to purchase the building.
Roxi is among many Highland youngsters who call Fyrish Gymnastics Club their second home.
“She loves gymnastics, she’s gymnastics-daft!” said Leonie, Roxi’s mum. “She’s been practising at home for ages, but after just a few weeks at Fyrish they have already taught her so much — she’s absolutely loving it. Already she can do a back handspring, and wouldn’t have been able to do it without their help.
“All of the coaches are lovely — she was instantly made to feel at home.”
Roxi is now trying to help the club raise money by selling her baking on August 18, offering a box of six cakes for £5, with all funds going straight to Fyrish.
