Invergordon ATM faulty for 14 months may be close to finally getting fixed

AN Invergordon cash machine that has been faulty for over 13 months, might finally be on track to getting replaced.

The Royal Bank of Scotland (RBS) ATM on the High Street has, according to locals, been faulty since December 2023. In March 2024, RBS told the Ross-shire Journal that they were “working with the landlord of the property to ensure the ATM is back up and running as soon as possible.”

They previously stated: “Our ATM in Invergordon is currently out of service due to water ingress through the roof of the property. This is not part of an owned branch and we are in ongoing conversations to ensure the landlord resolves the issue immediately."

A planning application to resolve the issue was finally received by the Highland Council on January 2, 2025. The applicant, Rachel Halls of RBS, is proposing the replacement of the existing ATM located on the front facade and the formation of a service pit in the ATM room. As well as this, the planning application also requested advertisement consent for an ATM Tablet sign above the proposed ATM.

However, a consultee from Historic Environment Scotland has objected to the proposed new sign. They stated: “We have no objections to the replacement ATM, or the excavation of the (modern) concrete floor internally. We do however object to the purple 'tablet' above if it is internally illuminated, as being inappropriate on the facade of a B-listed building; we have previous issues with RBS/Natwest sigange as such, for the garish purple appearance which will adversely affect the historic character and appearance of the listed building. The bank needs to apply more heritage appropriate/sensitive signage.”

The application is under consideration by the Highland Council until February 17.
