KEEPING Highland Hearts Healthy is the theme of a patient information event being organised by NHS Highland’s cardiovascular team this Saturday.

The event, which takes place from 9.45am-3.30pm at the Centre for Health Science in Inverness, is open to anyone who has anyone who has had heart issues and their friends and family.

Event organiser Christine Sumner, a cardiac nurse, said: “The event is a relaxed and informal way to meet some of the teams involved in caring for people with heart conditions and their families.

“The feedback we have received from previous events has been extremely positive. People appreciate being able to listen to the speakers and chat to different team members away from a clinical setting.

“One of the great benefits is that they get a chance to meet and talk to other people who have shared similar experiences. Hearing from others who have faced the same situation and who have learned how to move on and rebuild their lives is very important.”

Highland Health Hearts is a partnership event organised with support from the British Heart Foundation.

Speakers on the day include Professor Steve Leslie, consultant cardiologist for NHS Highland, and Richard Forsyth from the British Heart Foundation.

Organisations taking part include High Life Highland, Lets’ Get on with it Together, Wheelness, and Walking Football. A market place will be available on the day with information stalls.

Ms Sumner added: “The event is a great opportunity for anyone who is unaware of the local support groups available, for example Inverness Bravehearts or the High Life Highland phase four cardiac exercise programme. I would welcome anyone to come along and meet the fitness experts and learn more about what is available."
