AN upsurge of interest in a Pictish stone dating back 1200 years will help strengthen Dingwall’s pulling power to visitors.

An update talk on the Conon cross slab stone (pictured) now being expertly conserved in Edinburgh before going on permanent display in Dingwall Musuem attracted more than 75 people to the town at the weekend – among them tour guides looking for new places to bring visitors to the area.

Talk organiser Susan Kruse of the North of Scotland Archaeology Society also runs a Young Archaeologists Club. She said: “There is a lot of interest in the stone which was discovered last year and I’d hope some of these tour guides would look to bring their visitors to Dingwall.”

Ms Kruse said the find, under rhododendrons, is also sparking the interest of a new generation, many turning out on Saturday to find out more.
