With the Edinburgh Salmon Company “exploring all possible avenues” regarding a sale of its premises, it has emerged that the jobs fair held last month had around 100 posts up for grabs ranging from school teachers and drivers to cleaners and cooks. Highland Council alone had 54 posts vacant at the time.

It was estimated by Skills Development Scotland, which steered the event, that 100 jobs were on offer. The agency said it was not able to state how many of the posts had been filled as a result.

Dingwall and Seaforth councillor Margaret Paterson said it was her understanding that many former workers living locally had decided to stay.

Fellow ward councillor Alister Mackinnon understands several companies have been eyeing up the building though he doubts the scale of any future fish processing organisation would match ESCo’s operation.

The firm said it had retained 20 people to help decommission the site, but was unable to divulge commercially sensitive information.
