THE remarkable contribution of an Easter Ross couple to a local angling club has been honoured in history-making fashion.

The directors of Alness Angling Club decided to acknowledge the “immense” contribution made to the club by George and Christine Pirie by naming a pool on the Alness River in their honour - a first in the history of the club.

The honour reflects the important roles that both have held over the 65 years that George has been a member of the angling club.

During their terms as directors, George and Christine have helped steer the club through some difficult times to reach its current healthy state.

Club chairman Andrew Easton said the directors were keen to record their thanks for the many years of effort the couple have put in and continuing to provide.

A short ceremony was held to mark the naming of the pool beside the Averon Centre in Alness along with the new sign that will be placed there.
