A prisoner tried to exact revenge on an Easter Ross man on his release after what he was told had happened while he was incarcerated involving his partner.

Ian Grant's defence solicitor Graham Mann did not specify to Sheriff Gary Aitken what exactly had happened but told him: "There was good cause for him to be upset."

Grant appeared at Inverness Sheriff Court and admitted threatening behaviour towards the man on November 7 this year at a house in Firhill, Alness.

Fiscal depute Shay Traynor told the court: "There was an ongoing dispute between the two men. He shouted and swore outside the house, repeatedly banged on the door and uttered threats of violence.

"Police were called and he was brought under control. He was threatening to cut the man's throat, and said: 'I will slash your face' and called him 'a beast.' Then he made racist remarks to a police officer."

Mr Mann said his client was "fixated on sorting him out" adding that alcohol was involved.

"There is a place for him for rehab in Cale House in Inverness. A report may be useful."

The Sheriff agreed and deferred sentence until January 13. He released 29-year-old Grant on bail to a room at the rehab facility in Millburn Road.
