Highland power cuts leave hundreds of Wester Ross homes without electricity in the Applecross and Shieldaig area, says Scottish and Southern Electricity Networks (SSEN)
Hundreds of homes were without power on Monday morning after an electrical outage hit Highland communities.
Villages and hamlets in the Applecross and Shieldaig area were among more than 450 properties left without power following a series of outages.
SSEN Powertrack's online map was showing three different fault locations in that area, with a combined 451 properties affected.
The first of these lost power shortly after 4am with the last losing its electricity at around 5.20am.
At the time of writing SSEN was aiming to restore power by 9am, although electrical engineers were not yet reported at the scene and this timeframe could slip.
"The cause of this power cut is a fault on our overhead network," said SSEN/
"This is the most common trpe of fault we see, and our teams are very experienced in dealing with these issues.
"in most cases, our engineers are able to get your power back on by simply replacing a fuse at the local substation, however, if the fault is severe this may take us longer to fix."
