A LARGE power cut has knocked out electricity to hundreds of homes and businesses in the Dingwall area this afternoon.

Scottish and Southern Electricity Networks (SSEN) said that 51 separate IV15 postcodes lost power at 1.44pm due to a fault on overhead power lines.

Some 467 separate homes and businesses were without power, with most of those located within the Dingwall area.

There is no word yet on the cause or number of people affected, but a spokeswoman for SSEN said engineers arrived on site by 2.10pm and that they hoped to restore power by 4.30pm.

"Our engineers are on site working hard to get the power back on as quickly as they can.

"We apologise for the inconvenience this has caused," the spokeswoman added, stressing that they hoped to reconnect people to the grid "as quickly and safely as possible".

Anyone who needs more information, should visit SSEN's Powertrack webpage, call them on 105, or send them a message on Facebook or Twitter (@ssencommunity) and quote reference 'GG1510'."
