FOUR new houses could be built in a small Black Isle community, under plans submitted to Highland Council.

Applicants Mr and Mrs B Matheson are seeking permission in principle for four serviced house plots on land to the north of existing homes in Mount High.

The housing would sit on land at the northern end of an existing street of more than a dozen houses, between the last of those dwellings and the Mount High septic tank.

As the application is only for planning in principle at this stage, details on the buildings is limited, but foul water from the four sites is proposed to be dealt with by a dedicated treatment plant servicing the four sites – and then into Puraflo treatment modules before discharging into the nearby Birks Burn.

The application is the resubmission of an earlier proposal which was rejected owing to its location on land designated as long established woodland.

However, in a supporting statement, the applicants argue that a 1907 Ordnance Survey map showed the site as being cleared scrubland.

"Since the 1907 map was published, this area has only been scrub until the land was purchases by the Forestry Commission and used for commercial purposes," said a supporting statement. "Since being clear felled the area has had light re-planting so I would challenge the suggestion that the area is 'long established woodland'."
