A PRESTIGIOUS Wester Ross hotel is celebrating a culinary coup after its food and beverage duty manager was honoured for the quality of his service at the acclaimed Royal Academy of Culinary Arts Awards.
The Torridon's Rogan Galea was handed an Award of Excellence in the service category when the winners were announced at Westminster Kingsway College on Monday.
The Royal Academy of Culinary Arts Awards was created in 1983 to showcase Britain’s most successful young professionals in the hospitality industry, specifically recognising head chefs, pastry chefs, restaurant managers and suppliers who dedicate themselves to delivering an exceptional hospitality service to their guests every day.
Finalists in the service category were asked to demonstrate extensive knowledge and skills in a wide range of food and beverage service aspects, including product knowledge, technical service skills, interpersonal skills, and teamwork, with those awarded an Award of Excellence reaching a threshold of excellence set by the judges.
Following notification of this accolade, Rogan commented: “I don't feel like it's an award with winners and losers as everyone who passed the marks set by the judges deserves to be recognised for their tremendous effort and I'm glad I could be up there with such a talented group.”
In his earlier years studying international hospitality management at Bournemouth University, Rogan knew he wanted to pursue a career in hospitality with the ultimate aim of serving others whilst also being able to exhibit his passion for food and wine.
Prior to working at The Torridon’s 1887 Restaurant, he had jobs at Lucknam Park Hotel & Spa and as a footman at The Goring.
Advised to apply for the awards from a previous manager and winner, Rogan is very glad to have followed this guidance, having thoroughly enjoyed the process and examination period, where he got a chance to meet like-minded individuals and experience the prestigious competition.
