NHS Highland has closed Ruthen ward at New Craigs Hospital in Inverness due to Covid-19.

A ward at an Inverness hospital has closed to new admissions and visiting after a small number of cases of Covid-19 were detected.

The closure is at Ruthven Ward in New Craigs Hospital.

NHS Highland said patients were being clinically assessed and monitored with normal in-patient care continuing.

In a statement, it said: "All appropriate infection prevention and control measures have been put in place.

"Close contacts have been identified and given appropriate advice and support.

"We have not reached this decision lightly and recognise that this could cause a great deal of concern and anxiety for patients and their loved ones during this time. These measures will be reviewed on a regular basis.

"If your visit is essential please contact the ward your relative or loved one is in, and the staff will support you with arrangements.

"Please do not visit any of our hospitals or care home settings if you or anyone else in your household has tested positive for Covid-19 or has any symptoms.

"It is more important than ever to keep to guidance about distancing, hand washing, and wearing a face covering."

It said people can reduce the spread of Covid-19 by taking regular LFD tests and booking a PCR test if they have symptoms.
