A FINAL call has been issued to people across the Highlands to nominate their local healthcare hero.

Those put forward will be up for an accolade at the Scottish Health Awards 2014.

The deadline for nominations is Monday, September 8.

Organisers say nominations have been flooding in from across Scotland but that there are many healthcare teams and top professionals yet to be recognised for their contribution to providing outstanding patient care.

Every year, the judges search for Scotland’s finest NHS workers and volunteers from across every area of healthcare including therapists, GPs, specialist carers or volunteers who work tirelessly behind the scenes of NHS Scotland.

Garry Coutts, Chair of NHS Highland, said: “This is an excellent opportunity to champion and showcase the skills, dedication and commitment of staff and volunteers across Highland.

“Every week I hear from patients and members of the public about the high standard of care they have had from our staff and wanting to give recognition to those who go that extra mile and make their experience of care in the NHS such a good one.

“With the deadline fast approaching, I would like to remind local people and NHS staff to nominate individuals and teams who deserve to be recognised for their hard work and achievements.”

There are 16 award categories, including the Nurses Award, the Volunteers Award, the Top Team Award and the renowned Doctors Award.
