Highland village of Kinlochewe was hotter than Spain’s Valencia
A Highland village reached soaring temperatures on Wednesday — on par with the warmth in the Spanish city of Valencia.
Wester Ross’ Kinlochewe reached a toasty 25.5C on August 18, becoming the hottest part of the UK that day, as reported by the BBC.
Since records began for the area in 1953, the village has never seen temperature this high so late in the year.
Sutherland also topped 25C on Wednesday — becoming hotter than Glasgow for the day.
Despite the record-breaking warm temperatures, only last week (September 11) it was reported that snow could be seen on Ben Wyvis after a cold snap. The Cairngorms, Glen Coe and Lochaber were amongst other upland areas to see wintry showers.
This was due to strong north-westerly winds bringing colder air from the Arctic, across the country.
