ULTRA marathon runners taking part in a gruelling event in the Highlands over the next eight days are being asked to keep a lookout for a walker posted missing for more than three weeks.

Police issued a fresh public appeal for help to trace Glyn Smith.

The 76-year-old, from Cambridgeshire, is thought to have been on a walking tour of the north of Scotland.

He was last seen around Benmore Lodge near Loch Ailsh in Sutherland on Thursday, April 28.

Glyn is known to use a green one-person tent while travelling.

Police said: "The area is likely to be busy this weekend with those taking part in the Cape Wrath Ultra marathon and we would urge everyone to be vigilant and report anything of note to us."

Starting in Fort William, the race takes participants on a journey linking ancient footpaths and remote tracks to the furthest north-westerly point of the British Isles, Cape Wrath in Sutherland.

The 400km event starts today and runs until next Sunday.

It passes through a swathe of Ross-shire and Sutherland en route to the far north-west outpost.

Glyn hasn’t been in contact with family and they are becoming increasingly concerned. He also failed to meet with a group of friends for a planned trip.

He is described as white, 5ft 6in tall and of slim build. When he was last seen it’s believed he was wearing outdoor type clothing and carrying a rucksack.

Anyone who thinks they may have seen Glyn since Sunday, 24 April, 2022 is urged to contact Police Scotland on 101 quoting reference 2232 of 12 May, 2022.
