Highland Stoneware gets a visit from MSP to celebrate 50th anniversary of pottery
A HIGHLANDS and Islands MSP has celebrated the 50th anniversary of a Sutherland company.
Emma Roddick visited the Lochinver headquarters of renowned pottery firm Highland Stoneware on Monday, July 8. The firm also has an Ullapool outlet.
She met company founder David Grant and heard about the company’s history before being given a tour of the workshop, where the items are made.
Ms Roddick said: “Highland Stoneware is such a staple of Sutherland that it is hard to imagine there was a time before it – but it is now celebrating its 50th year, and I was delighted to meet David.
“I really enjoyed talking to David about the company’s past and present, and we talked a lot about the team and how they are always encouraged to be innovative with designs, currently developing new geological art.
”Highland Stoneware clearly means a lot to David, the community, and people all over the world who own one of his pieces.
“It is lovely to see such a successful business with roots in the Highlands.”
Since her visit, Ms Roddick has submitted a motion to the Scottish Parliament, congratulating David and the team on reaching this milestone.

Mr Grant signed the incorporation papers for Highland Stoneware Ltd on June 17, 1974, shortly after graduating with a degree in ceramics.
He set up the business with the help of his wife, Norah, and it wasn’t long before they began work on building the pottery in Lochinver.
The couple have thanked their customers and friends for their support.
