ROADS operator BEAR Scotland has said overnight closures will be in place on the A82 near Dochfour starting this weekend.

The closure is due to road resurfacing works, which will take place from 8pm on Sunday night, November 29, until Friday December 11.

The road closure, with amnesties, will be operating between 8pm and 6am for two weeks excluding Friday and Saturday nights.

The road will be open during the daytime with a 30mph speed limit in operation to ensure vehicles can safely pass through the works area on a temporary road surface.

Access for emergency services will be maintained at all times.

A spokeswoman for BEAR said: "The £340,000 project will see a section of the A82 to the north of Loch Dochfour, resurfaced improving ride comfort and safety for road users.

"Due to the narrow road widths throughout this location, the A82 will be closed in both directions during working hours to ensure the safety of both roadworkers and motorists.

"As there is no suitable diversion route for this section of the A82, vehicles will be held at either side of the work site until they are able to be escorted safely through the site during pre-set amnesty periods at 9pm, 10pm, 12am, 2am and 4am.

"Motorists are encouraged to arrive in good time to ensure they are accommodated within the amnesty period."

Eddie Ross, BEAR Scotland’s north west representative said: “This £340,000 resurfacing project will greatly improve the quality and safety for road users at this section of the A82.

“The overnight closures are essential to ensure the safety of roadworkers and road users given the narrow width of the road. We’ve taken steps to limit the overall impact of the project by carrying out as much work as possible overnight and avoiding working on Friday and Saturday nights.

“Our teams will do all they can to complete the works as quickly and safely as they can, and we thank the local community and road users for their patience in advance while we work on this project. We encourage motorists to plan ahead before setting out by checking the Traffic Scotland website for up to date travel information.”
