A STRETCH of road in the north Highlands will be temporarily closed from Monday to pave the way for repairs to be carried out safely.

Motorists are being advised by Highland Council that there will be a temporary road closure on the B873 Syre – Altnaharra Road via Loch Naver for a month.

It will be closed between its junction with the A836 Dornoch Bridge – Tongue – John O’ Groats Road, and its junction with B871 Kinbrace – Syre – Strathnaver – Bettyhill Road.

The closure will be in operation from Monday, July 12 until Friday, August 1 from 7am to 6pm each day.

Highland Council said it is necessary to create a safe working area to allow for patching to single track sections of road with narrow/soft verges.

Access will be maintained for emergency vehicles and pedestrian access and refuse collection will be controlled.

To avoid the road closure an alternative route will be available via the A836 Dornoch Bridge – Tongue – John O’ Groats Road, and the B871 Kinbrace – Syre – Strathnaver – Bettyhill Road.
