A 20-year-old ]man spent Christmas in a young offender's institution after spitting on a police officer.
Lee Drummond was remanded in custody on November 30 following the November 27 incident in the cells at Burnett Road Police Station in Inverness.
Drummond, of Craigton Avenue, had been arrested on another matter but became aggressive when being placed in a cell, fiscal depute Fiona Murray told Inverness Sheriff Court.
"He had to be restrained to the floor by two officers and he spat on one constable, striking him on the knee." Mrs Murray added.
Defence solicitor John MacColl told Sheriff Sara Matheson that his client was "aggrieved" at being arrested and accepts his conduct and behaviour was inappropriate."
Sheriff Matheson told Drummond, who was out on licence from a High Court custodial sentence imposed in the summer for a serious : "Spitting at a police officer is an extremely serious offence, particularly these days."
Drummond was sentenced to 135 days but backdated to November 30.
