Inverness College UHI hair and beauty lecturers are on the judging panel for this year’s North of Scotland Hair and Beauty Industry Awards.

Beauty lecturer Ellen Geddes is joined by hairdressing lecturers Roz Bullard and Seonaid Morrison for this year’s competition, which will be live streamed on Sunday, November 29.

The awards recognise excellence in the hair and beauty sector, and 21 gongs are up for grabs. The judges have been meeting virtually to consider applications, with finalists announced last week ahead of a 14-day public vote.

Most lecturers in the creative arts department also work in the industry, either as freelancers or as self-employed workers. Roz and Seonaid both run their own salons and became registered trichologists, specialists trained in the diagnosis and treatment of hair and scalp problems, earlier this year.

Inverness College UHI is now exploring opportunities for CPD awards in trichology for qualified hairdressers and looking to develop its curriculum offer in this area of hair science.

Hairdressing lecturer Roz said: “The creative arts team at Inverness College UHI works very closely with industry to ensure our teaching reflects the most up-to-date skills and standards for the workplace and that our students have the very best experience. It has been an honour to join the judging panel and to see the breadth of exceptional work taking place across the north of Scotland just now and to be able to share that experience with our students.”

Running alongside the awards is the Runway competition, which encourages an individual stylist or team of stylists to express their creative vision by styling an on-trend finish with a catwalk feel. This year’s theme is masked elegance.

These entries will be presented live on the night, with a live voting system to decide the winner. The event will be hosted by STV news presenters Chris Harvey and Nicola McAlley, helping to raise money for the STV Children’s Appeal.
