Covid-19 patient numbers in NHS Highland hospitals rose from 17 to 33 in a week; and there were 22 new positive tests for coronavirus in the health board area in past 24 hours

TWENTY-two further positive tests for Covid-19 were recorded across the NHS Highland health board area in the past 24 hours.
The region’s cumulative number of confirmed infections since the start of the pandemic rose from 3477 to 3499 when the latest daily update was released at 2pm.
Scotland recorded 1165 new cases in the past 24 hours – representing 11.1 per cent of all tests carried out over that period.
Scottish hospitals were treating 1989 people for the virus last night – up 30 on the previous day.
And the number of people in intensive care increased by four, to 150.
Sadly, 71 further deaths were recorded across Scotland among people who tested positive for the virus in the past 28 days.
A little closer to home, some 33 people were being treated for the virus in NHS Highland hospitals last night – a figure which is almost double the 17 who were on the region’s wards a week ago. And it is the highest number of hospital cases in the region since last April 26, although it is still below the peak of 49 recorded earlier that same month.
Seven Covid patients were in intensive care units in the Highlands last night, a figure which was unchanged from yesterday.
Meanwhile, elsewhere in the north of Scotland, there were new positive tests in every health board.
NHS Shetland’s cumulative total increased to 200 after five new cases were identified overnight, while NHS Eileanan Siar also recorded five fresh infections to take its tally to 159.
NHS Orkney registered two new cases.
NHS Grampian’s total increased by 86 to 11,340.
And NHS Tayside registered 83 positive tests, for a running tally of 11,054.
There have now been 164,927 positive tests across Scotland since the start of the pandemic.
The number of people who have now received their first dose of the vaccine now stands at 284,582 – an increase of almost 20,000 from yesterday.
