YOUNG volunteers in Easter Ross are being encouraged to consider stepping forward to help out one of the region's most cherished charities.

Highland Hospice has volunteering opportunities in a number if its shops, amongst them Alness and Tain.

And one of of the hospice's current young volunteers who has been helping out since she was 14 this week urged anyone thinking about getting involved to go for it.

Emma, who is currently helping out with the Ness Islands Railway, said: "My advice is to be yourself and always have a smile, because you’ll be helping to brighten someone’s day.

“I’ve been volunteering for Highland Hospice since I was 14. I’m currently helping out at the Ness Islands Railway, but have also volunteered as a kitchen porter, and at the Christmas grotto.

“I really enjoy volunteering. It’s inspired me to meet new people, build my confidence, and develop as a person. It’s also a great way of supporting the Hospice. It feels so nice to help people and put a smile on their faces.

“If you’re thinking of volunteering this summer, just do it! You never know where it might lead you to.”

Highland Hospice says that by sharing skills, supporting services, and helping raise vital funds, youth volunteers like Emma are an important part of its team.

It said its re-opened shops offer opportunities for young people to gain great volunteering experience.

Its Inverness retail warehouse and shop teams in Alness, Aviemore, Forres, Fort William, and Tain are all accepting youth volunteers.
