A THOUGHTFUL Easter Ross lass who wrote to thank health staff for “never thinking of giving up” during the coronavirus pandemic has touched hearts at NHS Highland.

Aimie Morrison, a pupil at Inver Primary, thanked staff for keeping going during tough times and even asked some questions.

She was delighted to receive a number of responses, including letters from chief executive Pam Dudek, who told Aimee: “It really means a lot when we hear from people like you. We wish we could share your letter with every single person working here, but there are so many (over 10,000!) that we picked just a few to respond to you personally.”

Councillor Fiona Robertson, chair of the Easter Ross area committee said: “Aimie’s letter is so thoughtful and kind and, as we can see from the replies, was welcomed by NHS staff. For young people to know and recognise the truly wonderful and remarkable role that the NHS staff play in all our lives at some point, and how much we all rely on them, is so positive and encouraging. It’s so important in life for us all to take time to give thanks and appreciate other people within our communities, and Aimie is such a powerful example to us all.”

Senior charge nurse Mhairi Forbes, of the High Dependency Unit, said: “We appreciate you thinking of us during the Covid pandemic.”

She added: “You are right that we are coming out the other side of Covid and there is light at the end of the tunnel. There is no doubt that it has been a stressful time for staff, we have a great team in the hospital and I for one am proud to work for the NHS.”

Another told her: "We have an amazing team who have all helped us look after patients with Covid." He added: "We have been really well supported by the people of the Highlands and we love to get messages like yours, thanking us for our hard work. We could not have got through these challenges without all this support and indeed all the hard work that everyone has put in to maintain social distancing, wear face coverings and washing their hands."

Sarah MacDougall, who was struck by Covid-19, posted to Aimee's mum: "I'm one of the Covid survivors from Inverness. I was admitted to Raigmore Hospital on April 1l last year critically ill with Covid-19. I was the fourth critically ill patient in Raigmore with Covid. I was looked after by the amazing ICU team then HDU then ward GA. I can't thank them all who looked after me, especially the ICU team that saved my life. This a such a lovely thing your daughter has done."
